Maine Community Foundation hits $ 500 million milestone

The Maine Community Foundation took a major milestone in charitable giving this month, surpassing the $ 500 million mark in grants awarded since its inception 38 years ago.

The grant that allowed MaineCF to exceed $ 500 million went to the Aroostook Agency on Aging to help seniors access COVID-19 vaccines. In just over a month, agency staff and volunteers have helped nearly 1,400 people get vaccine appointments.

MaineCF strives to improve the quality of life for all residents of Maine. It awards grants to non-profit organizations, awards scholarships and aspiration, and manages funds for non-profit organizations and municipalities. Last year, the foundation awarded 6,892 grants totaling nearly $ 60 million, a 45% increase from 2019.
